University ebooks from VLEBooks and Proquest Ebook Central both offer download options.  These can be useful if you

  • need to read using a phone rather than a laptop or desktop computer
  • wish to read when you don't have access to the internet (e.g. on your commute)
  • want to use the accessibility functions of your ebook reader software

For most other situations, we recommend using the Read Online option.  You can bookmark, annotate, change text size and even listen to your ebooks using read online.

The books we purchase or subscribe to via VLEBooks and Proquest Ebooks Central have Digital Rights Management (DRM).  The DRM software controls the the time period over which you can access your downloaded books.  This is set to two or three days for most of our ebooks although some can be downloaded for 20+ days.   Proquest Ebook Central will usually allow you to download up to one chapter from a book and keep that forever without special software  If you wish to download a complete book you will need to install free ebook reader software that will work with DRM.

You could use:  PocketBook Reader  You will need to enable DRM on PocketBook Reader in order to use it with our ebooks, and you will need an Adobe ID to do this.  Instructions below:

If you have an older operating system on your phone, or if you are using a desktop computer, you may be able to use Adobe Digital Editions rather than PocketBook Reader.
