The Cite Them Right website has a page. setting out quotations, which provides full guidance with examples on how to write shorter and longer quotations from a source into your writing.

Short quotations (up to 3 lines) should be enclosed in single or double quotations marks - be consistent throughout your work. Your citation should include the author, year and page number if available. If no page number is available, try to provide something else to help your reader locate the quote in your source, for example paragraph number.

Longer quotations should be in a new paragraph and indented from the main text. You do not need to use single or double quotation marks, but you must cite your source as before (author, year, page number).
