Broadly Open Access means:
Free, to the reader, unrestricted online access to scholarly materials
- Generally refers to peer-reviewed research papers
- There are projects looking at books and other media
Under Open Access publishing models the costs of publication are not met by subscription fees but other, alternative, sources such as Article Processing Charges or web advertising revenues.
